Three powerplants, one inventor
The advanced gasoline and gas-electric powerplants of the E-Class both trace their roots to technology pioneered by Mercedes-Benz. The V-6 and biturbo V-8 derive their clean, efficient performance from Direct Injection, a breakthrough first seen on the 1954 300SL. And the E400 HYBRID comes from the engineers who put the first hybrid with a lithium-ion battery on the road just a few short years ago. ()
