It does not react to certain stationary objects, nor recognize or predict the curvature and/or lane layout of the road or every movement of vehicles ahead. It is the driver's responsibility at all times to be attentive to traffic and road conditions, and to provide the steering, braking and other driving inputs necessary to retain control of the vehicle. Drivers are cautioned not to wait for the system's alerts before braking, as that may not afford sufficient time and distance to brake safely.

    Optional DISTRONIC PLUS® active cruise control can automatically slow down or stop the vehicle in response to traffic ahead. It also includes PRE-SAFE® Brake, and a new feature that helps you stay centered in your lane, even in gentle curves. Optional Blind Spot Assist and Lane Keeping Assist can help alert you to unseen vehicles in the next lane, help warn you of drifting out of lane, and with available active technology, help steer the vehicle back if you disregard the alerts.  (Disclaimer)

    Introduction dates vary. See your dealer for availability. DISTRONIC PLUS adaptive cruise control is no substitute for active driving involvement. It does not adapt cruising speed in response to stationary objects, nor does it predict the curvature and lane layout of the road ahead or the movement of vehicles ahead. It is the driver´s responsibility at all times to be attentive to traffic and road conditions, and to provide the steering, braking and other driving inputs necessary to retain control of the vehicle. Drivers are cautioned not to wait for the DISTRONIC Proximity Warning System before braking, as that may not afford sufficient time and distance to brake safely. After braking the car for stopped traffic ahead, system resumes automatically only if traffic pauses for less than 3 seconds. Braking effectiveness also depends on proper brake maintenance, and tire and road conditions.

    Blind Spot Assist may not be sufficient to avoid all accidents involving vehicles in your blind spot and does not estimate the speed of approaching vehicles. It should not be used as a sole substitute for driver awareness and checking of surrounding traffic conditions.

    Optional on the E350 Sedan and standard on the E550, 4MATIC® all-wheel drive integrates our 4-wheel Electronic Traction System. 4-ETS continually redistributes the engine's torque to the wheels with the best grip, even if that's only one wheel.     No system, regardless of how advanced, can overcome the laws of physics or correct careless driving. Please always wear your seat belt. Performance is limited by available traction, which snow, ice and other conditions can affect. Always drive carefully, consistent with conditions.     Predicts, prepares and protects

    The E-Class has long been a protective showcase of safety breakthroughs. PRE-SAFE® is a Mercedes-Benz first that can detect conditions suggesting a collision or rollover is imminent, then help prepare the occupants and their restraints in the moments before a collision. Available new PRE-SAFE PLUS can further enhance protection in a collision from behind.  (Disclaimer)

    PRE-SAFE closes the side windows when the system's sensors detect side movements that suggest a possible rollover. A small gap is left near the fully closed position.

    11-way air bag protection

    With nine air bags offering 11-way protection, no other car in its class offers air bags in more locations. Pelvic air bags complement side-impact air bags for each front seat. A driver's knee air bag augments dual-stage front air bags. Side curtain air bags are provided at the outboard seating positions in both the first and second rows.  (Disclaimer)

DISTRONIC PLUS

This advanced, radar-based cruise control monitors the vehicle ahead and adjusts your speed to help maintain a chosen following distance. Its stop-and-go function can bring the car to a halt if it senses stopped traffic, then resume automatically.

Media Interface

The Media Interface turns your Mercedes-Benz into an extension of your iPod, compatible MP3 player or similar device. Browse, select and play your music via the vehicle's standard audio controls on the console, dash and steering wheel, or the available voice control.

4-wheel Electronic Traction System

4-ETS can help get you going even if three wheels lose their grip. Sensors at each wheel monitor traction based on wheel speeds. If one or more wheels start to slip, 4-ETS individually brakes the slipping wheels to maintain the flow of torque to the wheels with grip. Even if only one wheel has grip, 4-ETS can help get you going and stay in control.

Bluetooth® audio streaming

Bluetooth audio streaming makes it even easier to enjoy your digital music player, allowing you to connect your Bluetooth-equipped iPod® or other MP3 player wirelessly to your vehicle's audio system for convenient, cable-free playback.

Blind Spot Assist

At speeds above approximately 20 mph, if radar sensors in the rear bumper detect a vehicle in the "blind spot" area to either side, an indicator lights up in the appropriate side mirror. If you activate a turn signal while a vehicle is detected, a warning sounds. And if you disregard the alerts and begin changing lanes, available active technology can apply the brake to a single rear wheel, to help guide the car back into its lane.

COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST

This new standard safety innovation's radar-based technology alerts the driver if it senses a possible collision with a vehicle or certain stationary objects ahead. As soon as the driver steps on the brake pedal, its Adaptive Brake Assist automatically provides the ideal level of braking. And if deemed necessary, the system can also activate the features of PRE-SAFE®.

PRE-SAFE Brake

PRE-SAFE PLUS

An enhancement to the groundbreaking PRE-SAFE system helps protect the occupants in a rear-end collision. A radar sensor in the rear bumper helps detect an impending impact, engaging the features of PRE-SAFE to better prepare the front-seat occupants and their restraint systems. It can also increase brake pressure, to help reduce peak loads on all occupants as well as the risk of a secondary collision.

The E400 HYBRID Sedan teams a V-6 gasoline engine with an electric motor and lithium-ion battery, a technology first introduced by Mercedes-Benz. Boasting ultra-low emissions and outstanding fuel economy, this groundbreaking feat of engineering optimizes torque and efficiency for every driving situation, from acceleration to cruising. Its ECO Start/Stop system and advanced technology that recuperates energy during braking make the most of deceleration and idling as well.

taillamps

Brighter than traditional incandescent bulbs, LED technology also delivers quicker illumination of the brake lamps. By offering drivers behind you more time to react, this could make a critical difference in a panic stop.

A new 3-pod instrument cluster highlights the sweeping new dash and enhanced features of the 2014 E-Class Sedan. The classic tradition of Mercedes-Benz craftsmanship is apparent even in the most modern materials like the sleek metallic trim in a new Silver Shadow finish. Hand-polished wood complements the hand-fitted and precisely double-stitched upholstery in a refreshing palette of colors. And while a new central analog timepiece celebrates the iconic Mercedes-Benz sedans of the past, the multifunction steering wheel, central controller and standard COMAND system put the future at your fingertips.

ATTENTION ASSIST

The first system of its kind, ATTENTION ASSIST continuously monitors more than 70 different parameters of driving behavior in the first few minutes of a drive to establish a pattern. It can automatically alert the driver with both visual and audible warnings if it detects signs of drowsiness on longer trips.

Lane Keeping Assist

With technology that monitors ordinary road markings, Active Lane Keeping Assist helps detect unintended drifting off-course, and alerts the driver by vibrating the steering wheel. If the driver continues to drift, available active technology can apply the brake to a single rear wheel to help guide the car back into its lane.

ECO Start/Stop

A fuel-saving new ECO Start/Stop system automatically shuts off the engine at stoplights and other idle situations. As soon as the driver lifts off the brake, the engine instantly restarts, for immediate acceleration response. The driver can also shut off the feature at any time.

LED headlamps

With longer life, quicker illumination and beams that approximate daylight even more closely than Bi-Xenon headlamps, the new standard LED headlamps enhance both vision and visibility during nighttime driving.

Daytime Running Lamps

Bright white LED Daytime Running Lamps express the legendary four-lamp face of the E-Class in a decidedly modern style that is unmistakable, even at a glance. They illuminated whenever the car is switched on to help increase the visibility of your vehicle to oncoming traffic. The light-emitting diode (LED) lamps also offer long life and low energy consumption.

Luxury Sedans

Elegant new wheels and a dramatic new rendering of the classic Mercedes-Benz grille convey the refined aura of an E-Class Luxury Sedan. Its stand-up Three-Pointed Star leads a proud tradition from its command post atop the hood. Refined cabin appointments present countless technological advances with a sense of style and tangible evidence of the workmanship that evoke the deep E-Class heritage.

AGILITY CONTROL

Engineered specifically for performance driving, AGILITY CONTROL automatically adjusts the individual shock absorbers based on the road surface and the driver's current driving style. Valving inside each shock absorber automatically firms up during stronger body motions for sharper handling feedback and stability, and reduces the damping rates during gentler motions for a smoother, more composed ride.

Sport Sedans

Distinctive wheels and bold body detailing highlight the E-Class Sport Sedans. A new slatted grille incorporates the Three-Pointed Star, reflecting its place among the most sporty Mercedes-Benz models. The sport-tuned suspension gives it a confident stance, set off by more aggressive sculpting of its bumpers and side sills. Countless cabin details express its performance-focused character.

4MATIC®

Always engaged and optimizing torque to every wheel, 4MATIC integrates with our standard Electronic Stability Program (ESP) for maximum effectiveness in corners and slippery conditions. An exclusive new performance-focused 4MATIC system has been specially developed the AMG models.

Direct Injection

In our advanced gasoline engines, numerous advances team up to deliver more torque over a wider range of rpm. Rapid-multispark ignition fires up to four times per millisecond, while advanced high-pressure Direct Injection microscopically tunes the fuel spray, reducing emissions, fuel consumption and noise. Lighter weight, quicker variable valve timing, reduced friction, and clever "on-demand" ancillary components further boost efficiency.

Electromechanical power steering

Advanced electromechanical power steering delivers quicker response in corners, easier maneuvering at low speeds, along with precise on-center feel and straight-line stability.
