    The roomy second and third rows offer easy access and ample room. Easy-entry features are provided on both sides, and heated 2nd-row seats are optional. For even greater enjoyment, the optional Rear Seat Entertainment system lets 2nd-row passengers watch DVD movies, attach a portable gaming console and more. And they can do it together or individually, with dual 8-inch LCD screens, multiple inputs, two pairs of headsets and wireless remotes. You can even play the sound through the vehicle's audio system, so the 3rd row can watch as well.

    Climate comfort to a higher degree

    Dual-zone climate control filters dust, pollen and odors from the cabin air, while allowing the driver to enjoy a separate temperature zone from the rest of the cabin. An optional 3-zone system adds dedicated rear-cabin air conditioning, a rear control panel and a humidity sensor. Heated front seats are standard, while optional Active Ventilated front seats and heated 2nd-row seats turn added comfort into a higher order of luxury.

Digital Dynamic Volume Control impeccably and imperceptibly maintains the sound spectrum for consistent listening pleasure in varying driving conditions.

Adaptive Highbeam Assist

Engineered to provide the maximum possible road illumination without creating glare for other drivers, this innovative feature uses continuous input from a camera to automatically vary the range of your high beams, based on the distance both to oncoming vehicles and to those ahead of you.

ACTIVE CURVE SYSTEM

To help control body lean during cornering maneuvers, electrohydraulically variable stabilizer bars for the front and rear axles increase roll stiffness based on driving speed and lateral acceleration, as well as the driver-selection of the Adaptive Damping System's Sport mode. In addition to flatter, more confident cornering, the system also enhances comfort in straight-line driving and during gentle, sweeping turns.

With the On/Off-Road Package, a rotary selector on the console offers six driving programs: Auto, Sport, Snow, Trailer and two Off-road modes that increase both ride height and fording depth.

SiriusXM Radio

While you listen, SiriusXM Traffic keeps you up to date on accidents, traffic, construction and road closures, and even helps your vehicle's navigation system find the fastest route based on real-time traffic. Electronic Stability Program

This safety breakthrough first introduced by Mercedes-Benz continually monitors your driving inputs and the vehicle's motion to help keep it going in your intended direction, especially in corners and during evasive maneuvers. If it detects wheelspin, severe understeer (plowing), or oversteer (fishtailing), ESP can brake individual wheels and reduce engine power to help bring the vehicle under control. In the GL-Class, ESP also adapts to vehicle loads to provide sportier handling when the vehicle is only lightly laden.

The EASY-ENTRY 60/40-split 2nd-row seats quickly tumble out of the way to afford easy access to the spacious 3rd row from either side. A power EASY-ENTRY feature is optional.

4-wheel Electronic Traction

For optimum traction, even in slippery conditions, 4MATIC all-wheel drive incorporates our advanced 4-wheel Electronic Traction System. 4-ETS can help get you going even if three wheels lose their grip. Sensors at each wheel monitor traction based on wheel speeds. If one or more wheels start to slip, 4-ETS individually brakes the slipping wheels to maintain the flow of torque to the wheels with grip. Even if only one wheel has grip, 4-ETS can help get you going and stay in control.

Paddle shifters

A pair of paddles strategically positioned behind the upper steering-wheel spokes allows you to manually upshift and downshift the 7-speed automatic transmission with just a flick of your fingers.

LED Daytime Running Lamps

Stylish and high-tech, bright white LED Daytime Running Lamps help increase the visibility of your vehicle to oncoming traffic by illuminating front lights whenever the car is switched on.

clean diesel V-6

BlueTEC clean diesel technology is the state of the art in any US state. The 3.0-liter turbodiesel V-6 delivers 240 hp, a massive 455 lb-ft of torque, and quick acceleration. Mercedes-Benz, pioneer of the original diesel car, has reinvented it without the noise, odor and emissions of old. By injecting a solution called AdBlue® into the exhaust, BlueTEC reduces smog-causing NOx to harmless nitrogen and water vapor. And with better highway mpg than some 4-cylinders and hybrids, if offers a cruising range of over 600 miles.

Heated front seats

Electrically heated front seats quickly take the chill out of even the coldest day. Three levels of warming automatically step down after several minutes to the lowest setting.

7-speed automatic

A wide range of closely spaced gear ratios delivers the ideal response for virtually every driving situation, for smooth cruising, quick acceleration, and thanks to two overdrive ratios, better highway fuel efficiency. Adaptive logic monitors your driving style and adjusts its shift points to match, while standard paddle shifters offer manual-style enjoyment anytime you want it.

multifunction steering wheel

For fingertip access to some of the vehicle functions you use most often, convenient buttons on the steering wheel let you control the audio volume and selection, send and end calls on your Bluetooth-enabled phone, and scroll through the features of the multifunction display in the instrument cluster.

biturbo gasoline V-8s

Two advanced 4.6-liter V-8 engines combines numerous advances and twin turbos to deliver more power. Their greater peak torque is on tap at lower engine speeds. Rapid-multispark ignition fires up to four times per millisecond, while new high-pressure Direct Injection microscopically tunes the fuel spray, reducing emissions, fuel consumption and noise. And to further boost efficiency, each features a lightweight diecast-alloy block, quicker and more widely variable valve timing, reduced friction, and clever "on-demand" ancillary components like the alternator.

AIRMATIC

For the ideal balance of control and comfort, the AIRMATIC semi-active suspension employs electronically controlled air springs. Every time a wheel moves up or down, the system automatically selects one of four damping profiles for each spring-strut. Sport and Comfort modes let drivers match the handling character to their mood. Automatic 4-wheel level control adapts for additional cargo or passengers, and lowers the vehicle at higher speeds for improved aerodynamics.

Multicolor ambient lighting

A network of efficient LEDs and fiber optics casts a gentle glow from beneath the trim on the dashboard and door panels, to welcome occupants into the cabin and to help make nighttime driving feel more secure. For an added touch of personality, any of three illumination color profiles (Polar, Solar and Neutral) can be selected. Also included are illuminated front door sills that welcome you aboard with a soft white glow.

Massaging seats

Available multicontour front seats (standard on the GL550) feature adjustable lumbar supports, side bolsters and shoulder supports, for custom-tailored support. A massage feature helps prevent fatigue on longer drives.

Bi-Xenon headlamps

Bi-Xenon headlamps help deliver greater visibility than halogen headlamps because their brighter, whiter light is much closer to natural daylight. Active Curve Illumination helps you see better into corners at night, swiveling the headlamps as you steer to increase usable illumination by up to 90% over conventional fixed headlamps.

Bluetooth

Bluetooth audio streaming makes it even easier to enjoy your digital music player. It allows you to connect your Bluetooth-equipped iPod® or other MP3 player wirelessly to your vehicle's audio system for convenient, cable-free playback.

iPod® integration

The iPod®/MP3 Media Interface turns your Mercedes-Benz into an extension of your iPod or compatible electronic device. Browse, select and play your musical accompaniment of choice via the multifunction steering wheel or central controller. New for 2013, you can even search for music via the Enhanced Voice Control system.

Active Ventilated front seats

Active Ventilated seats offer three levels of heating and cooling ventilation. By gently circulating air through perforations in the seat and backrest, the seats help keep you cooler and your clothes dryer during warmer months. On cold or damp days, using both the ventilation and heating features together can circulate the seat heating more quickly, to help keep you warm and dry.

10GB Music Register

Music Register allows you to store up to 10GB of your own digital music on the in-dash hard drive. It lets you copy songs from your CDs and DVDs and save them to your vehicle's audio system, so you can listen to them anytime and anywhere you drive.

Panorama roof

Offering sweeping skyward views to all three seating rows, this giant glass sunroof features a front panel that can either tilt up for ventilation or slide over the rear panel for an open-air feeling. Heat-rejecting glass and a power sunshade for the first two seating rows helps keep the cabin cooler under the summer sun.

Power-folding third row

The power 50/50-split 3rd-row seats can be individually folded flat in less than five seconds at the touch of a button. With the 2nd and 3rd rows folded, there are nearly 94 cu ft of cargo room. And for convenient passenger access to the 3rd row, the standard EASY-ENTRY system quickly tumbles either of the 2nd-row seats from its nearby door, with a power EASY-ENTRY feature optional.
