    Innovative options help keep you on track

    Optional DISTRONIC PLUS active cruise control automatically slows down or stops the vehicle in response to traffic ahead. Its PRE-SAFE® Brake feature can sense an impending collision and apply full braking. Optional Blind Spot Assist and Lane Keeping Assist can help alert you to unseen vehicles in the next lane, help warn you of drifting out of lane, and with available active technology, help steer the vehicle back if you disregard the alerts.  (Disclaimer)

    DISTRONIC PLUS adaptive cruise control is no substitute for active driving involvement. It does not react to stationary objects, nor recognize or predict the curvature and lane layout of the road or the movement of vehicles ahead.     Pioneering air bags is nothing new to the M-Class. It was the first SUV equipped with side curtain air bags, and for 2013 its nine standard air bags, including a knee air bag for the driver, offer 11-way protection. Trailer Stability Assist

A trailer in tow can adversely affect the driving dynamics of a vehicle. Standard with Trailer Stability Assist uses the sensors for the Electronic Stability Program (ESP®) to monitor for trailer sway, or oscillations caused by the trailer's movement. The system then intervenes by using the front brakes of your Mercedes to help stabilize the vehicle and trailer. Once the system is satisfied that the situation is under control, braking intervention is ceased.

iPod integration

The iPod®/MP3 Media Interface turns your Mercedes-Benz into an extension of your iPod or compatible electronic device. Browse, select and play your musical accompaniment of choice via the multifunction steering wheel or central controller. New for 2013, you can even search for music via the Enhanced Voice Control system.

A wide range of closely spaced gear ratios delivers the ideal response for virtually every driving situation, for smooth cruising, quick acceleration, and thanks to two overdrive ratios, better highway fuel efficiency. Adaptive logic monitors your driving style and adjusts its shift points to match, while standard paddle shifters offer manual-style enjoyment anytime you want it.

Music Register

Music Register allows you to store up to 10GB of your own digital music on the in-dash hard drive. It lets you copy songs from your CDs and DVDs and save them to your vehicle's audio system, so you can listen to them anytime and anywhere you drive.

An advanced 402-hp 4.6-liter V-8 combines numerous advances and twin turbos to deliver 12% more power. Its 443 lb-ft torque peak offers 45% more thrust at just 2,000 rpm. Its rapid-multispark ignition fires up to four times per millisecond, while new high-pressure Direct Injection microscopically tunes the fuel spray, reducing emissions, fuel consumption and noise. A lightweight diecast-alloy block, quicker and more widely variable valve timing, reduced friction, and clever "on-demand" ancillary components like the alternator further boost efficiency.

With technology that monitors ordinary road markings, Lane Keeping Assist helps detect unintended drifting off-course, and alerts the driver by vibrating the steering wheel.

six selectable driving programs

With the On/Off-Road Package, a rotary selector on the console offers six driving programs: Auto, Sport, Snow, Trailer and two Off-road modes that increase both ride height and fording depth.

DISTRONIC PLUS

This advanced, radar-based cruise control monitors the vehicle ahead and adjusts your speed to help maintain a chosen following distance. It can even bring the car to a halt if it senses stopped traffic, then resume automatically. Should the car ahead slow or stop suddenly, the PRE-SAFE Brake system can automatically engage up to 40% of available braking power and issue an audiovisual alarm. If you still haven't applied the brakes within 0.6 seconds of a calculated impact, it automatically engages 100% braking power.

BlueTEC clean diesel technology is the state of the art in any US state. The 3.0-liter turbodiesel V-6 delivers 240 hp, a massive 455 lb-ft of torque, and acceleration as quick as its gasoline counterpart. Mercedes-Benz, pioneer of the original diesel car, has reinvented it without the noise, odor and emissions of old. By injecting a solution called AdBlue® into the exhaust, BlueTEC reduces smog-causing NOx to harmless nitrogen and water vapor. And with better highway mpg than some 4-cylinders and hybrids, if offers a cruising range of over 600 miles.

A network of efficient LEDs and fiber optics casts a gentle glow from beneath the trim on the dashboard and door panels, both to welcome occupants into the cabin and to help make nighttime driving feel more secure. AGILITY CONTROL

AGILITY CONTROL suspension
Engineered specifically for performance driving, AGILITY CONTROL automatically adjusts the individual shock absorbers based on the road surface and the driver's current driving style. Valving inside each shock absorber automatically firms up during stronger body motions for sharper handling feedback and stability, and reduces the damping rates during gentler motions for a smoother, more composed ride.

ATTENTION ASSIST

The first system of its kind, ATTENTION ASSIST continuously monitors over 70 different parameters of driving behavior in the first minutes of a drive to establish a pattern, and can automatically alert the driver with both visual and audible warnings if it detects signs of drowsiness on long trips.

4-wheel Electronic Traction System (4-ETS)

For optimum traction, even in slippery conditions, 4MATIC all-wheel drive incorporates our advanced 4-wheel Electronic Traction System. 4-ETS can help get you going even if three wheels lose their grip. Sensors at each wheel monitor traction based on wheel speeds. If one or more wheels start to slip, 4-ETS individually brakes the slipping wheels to maintain the flow of torque to the wheels with grip. Even if only one wheel has grip, 4-ETS can help get you going and stay in control.

Bluetooth

Data for the contiguous U.S., Canada and Oahu, Hawaii are standard, with periodic updates available at your authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer.

PRE-SAFE®

Safety leadership
PRE-SAFE can detect instability during certain vehicle maneuvers that suggest a collision or rollover is imminent. It can then tighten the front seat belts, and close the windows and sunroof, all in an effort to better prepare the occupants and restraints in the moments before a collision. If no accident occurs, the seat-belt tensioners reverse, and you simply readjust your seat, open the sunroof and continue on your way.

4-wheel independent suspension
For a balanced, comfortable ride, the AIRMATIC semi-active suspension employs electronically controlled air springs that adjust to changing driving conditions. At the push of a button, the vehicle's ride height can be raised for added ground clearance. The suspension also lowers automatically at higher speeds for improved aerodynamics, stability and fuel-efficiency. Blind Spot Assist

Blind Spot Assist
When the vehicle is traveling above 18 mph, this system uses radar technology to sense when a vehicle enters the blind-spot area. Blind Spot Assist then automatically alerts the driver via an illuminated red icon in the vehicle's side mirrors. The system also gives an audible warning if the driver activates a turn signal while a vehicle is detected in the blind spot.

COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST

At speeds above 20 mph, COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST uses radar-based technology to alert the driver if they´re approaching a vehicle ahead at a speed and distance that suggest a collision is likely. Its Adaptive Brake Assist automatically provides the ideal level of braking as soon as the driver steps on the brake pedal. If deemed necessary, the system can also activate PRE-SAFE, while the system´s engagement of the brake lamps can help to alert drivers behind your vehicle earlier as well.

AMG biturbo V-8

With reduced displacement, numerous innovations and twin turbochargers, the 5.5-liter V-8 of the ML63 AMG outputs a thunderous 516 lb-ft of torque. While it bears the signature of the single technician who lovingly assembled it by hand, it's a high-tech powerhouse. Its twin turbochargers spin up to 185,000 rpm to dramatically boost low-end torque. High-pressure Direct Injection microscopically fine-tunes the fuel spray while rapid-multispark ignition fires up to four times in a millisecond. Its 32 valves are driven by dual overhead camshafts that can precisely vary their timing by up to 40 degrees.
