BlueTEC clean diesel technology is the state of the art for all 50 states. The 3.0-liter turbodiesel V-6 has been refined in the 2012 ML350 BlueTEC to deliver 240 hp, a massive 455 lb-ft of torque, and acceleration as quick as its gasoline counterpart. Mercedes-Benz, pioneer of the original diesel car, has reinvented it without the noise, odor and emissions of old. By injecting a solution called AdBlue® into the exhaust, BlueTEC reduces smog-causing NOx to harmless nitrogen and water vapor. And with better highway mpg than some 4-cylinders and hybrids, if offers a cruising range of over 600 miles.

For optimum traction, even in slippery conditions, 4MATIC all-wheel drive incorporates our advanced 4-wheel Electronic Traction System. 4-ETS can help get you going even if three wheels lose their grip. Sensors at each wheel monitor traction based on wheel speeds. If one or more wheels start to slip, 4-ETS individually brakes the slipping wheels to maintain the flow of torque to the wheels with grip. Even if only one wheel has grip, 4-ETS can help get you going and stay in control.

The new Active Curve System incorporates active stabliizers to help control body lean during cornering maneuvers. Electrohydraulically variable stabilizer bars for the front and rear axles increases roll stiffness based on driving speed and lateral acceleration, as well as the driver-selection of the Adaptive Damping System's Sport mode. In addition to flatter, more confident cornering, the system also enhances comfort in straight-line driving and during gentle, sweeping turns.

PRE-SAFE®

Safety leadership
Mercedes-Benz originated this revolutionary safety system, and it's still the only manufacturer to offer it standard. A predictive occupant-protection system, PRE-SAFE® acts decisively to prepare for a possible accident, using sensors from two of the active safety systems in the vehicle: Brake Assist and our Electronic Stability Program. If system sensors detect certain vehicle movements that indicate that an accident is possible, PRE-SAFE takes action to help protect the vehicle's occupants. Reversible electronic tensioners tighten the front seat belts. On vehicles equipped with front-seat memory, PRE-SAFE adjusts the occupied front passenger's seat to a more favorable position for air-bag and seat-belt effectiveness, as well as both active front head restraints for optimum positioning. In the event of severe skidding, which indicates that a rollover is likely, PRE-SAFE closes the sunroof and side windows. If no accident occurs, the seat-belt tensioners reverse, and you simply readjust your seat, open the sunroof and continue on your way.

DISTRONIC PLUS (with PRE-SAFE Brake) - Driver Assistance Package

This advanced, radar-based cruise control monitors the vehicle ahead and adjusts your speed to help maintain a chosen following distance. It can even bring the car to a halt if it senses stopped traffic, then resume automatically. Should the car ahead slow or stop suddenly, the PRE-SAFE Brake system can automatically engage up to 40% of available braking power and issue an audiovisual alarm. If you still haven't applied the brakes within 0.6 seconds of a calculated impact, it automatically engages 100% braking power.

With a luminous silver finish, the standard 19-inch alloy wheels feature five twin spokes on V-6 models and a 5-spoke AMG design on the ML550. They're fitted with beefy 255/50R19 all-season tires for an optimal year-round balance of surefooted handling and a quiet ride.
