    Cleaner getaways

    A new generation of engines deliver more power, richer torque, cleaner emissions and greater efficiency. A new 1.8L turbo-4 in the SLK250 and a 3.5L V-6 in the SLK350 are quicker from 0 to 60, and in some surprising other ways, too: Their advanced rapid-multispark ignition fires up to four times in a millisecond. And new high-pressure Direct Injection micro-manages the fuel spray as quickly as 0.1 millisecond.

    Power in your hands

    Sports-car purists will delight in engaging the short-throw 6-speed manual gearbox that's standard on the SLK250. A 7-speed automatic transmission (optional on the SLK250) is standard on the SLK350 and in specially enhanced form on SLK55 AMG. Engineered for crisper, quicker shifts and greater efficiency, it features paddle shifters and a true Manual mode so you can change gears without taking a hand from the 3-spoke steering wheel.

    Performance with panache

    The optional Sport Package further hones the performance edge of the SLK-Class. Staggered-width 18-inch AMG 5-spoke wheels[*1] are set off by aggressive Sport lower body work: A deep front air dam with mesh air intakes, sculpted side sills, and a rear valance framing polished chrome tailpipes. Adding visual heat to the cockpit, the console and doors are outlined in Solar Red direct ambient lighting.

    Confidence with convenience

    Lift off the accelerator quickly and Predictive Brake Priming sets the pads closer to the discs, for more immediate response when you hit the brakes. In the rain, Automatic Brake Drying gently applies the brakes periodically, to sweep away water build-up. During uphill starts, Hill-Start Assist helps prevent unwanted rollback. And a HOLD feature can make stop-and-go traffic a little easier.[*2]

Its rapid-multispark ignition can fire up to four times per millisecond. New high-pressure Direct Injection can microscopically fine-tune the fuel spray in 0.1 milliseconds, reducing emissions, fuel consumption and noise. A lightweight diecast-alloy block, quicker and more widely variable valve timing, reduced friction, and clever "on-demand" ancillary components like the alternator further boost efficiency.
DESIGN
TECHNOLOGY

1. Lower aspect ratio tires and accompanying wheels provide substantially increased treadwear, increased tire noise and reduced ride comfort. Serious wheel and tire damage may occur if the vehicle is operated on rough or damaged road surfaces or upon encountering road debris or obstacles. These tires are not designed for use on snow and ice. Winter tires mounted on appropriately sized and approved wheels are recommended for driving in those conditions.

2. Braking effectiveness also depends on proper brake maintenance, and tire and road conditions.
