    Power in your hands

    Sports-car purists will delight in engaging the short-throw 6-speed manual gearbox that's standard on the SLK250. A 7-speed automatic transmission (optional on the SLK250) is standard on the SLK350 and in specially enhanced form on SLK55 AMG. Engineered for crisper, quicker shifts and greater efficiency, it features paddle shifters and a true Manual mode so you can change gears without taking a hand from the 3-spoke steering wheel.

    Performance with panache

    The optional Sport Package further hones the performance edge of the SLK250 and SLK350. Staggered-width 18-inch AMG 5-spoke wheels are set off by aggressive, aerodynamic lower body work: A deep front air dam with mesh air intakes, sculpted side sills, and a rear valance framing polished chrome tailpipes.     Lower aspect ratio tires and accompanying wheels provide substantially increased treadwear, increased tire noise and reduced ride comfort. Serious wheel and tire damage may occur if the vehicle is operated on rough or damaged road surfaces or upon encountering road debris or obstacles. These tires are not designed for use on snow and ice. Winter tires mounted on appropriately sized and approved wheels are recommended for driving in those conditions.

    Adaptive braking technology helps the SLK decelerate decisively. Lift off the accelerator quickly and Predictive Brake Priming sets the pads closer to the discs, for more immediate response when you hit the brakes. In the rain, Automatic Brake Drying gently applies the brakes periodically, to sweep away water build-up. During uphill starts, Hill-Start Assist helps prevent unwanted rollback. With reduced displacement and numerous innovations, the handcrafted 5.5-liter Direct Injection V-8 of the SLK55 AMG outputs a thunderous 415 hp @ 6,800 rpm and reaches its 398-lb-ft torque peak at just 4,500 rpm. Its 32 valves are driven by dual overhead camshafts that can precisely vary their timing by up to 40 degrees. It's also the first engine produced with AMG Cylinder Management, an innovation that seamlessly deactivates an entire bank of four cylinders in low-load conditions, boosting efficiency. Within 30 milliseconds of the driver making an acceleration demand, they imperceptibly fire back to life.
