COMAND system with central controller and 7-inch dashtop LCD screen

Featuring a stylish and large high-resolution color-LCD display mounted atop the dash and a central controller on the console, the Cockpit Management and Data (COMAND) system gives you convenient control of audio, video, hands-free calling and optional navigation functions. Many features can also be accessed via the integrated steering-wheel controls.

7-speed automatic transmission

The industry's first 7-speed automatic has been made even smoother, more responsive and more efficient. A wide range of closely spaced gear ratios delivers the ideal response in virtually every driving situation, for relaxed cruising, quick acceleration, and thanks to two overdrive ratios, better highway fuel efficiency. Adaptive logic monitors your driving style and adjusts its shift points to match, while new shift paddles offer manual-style enjoyment anytime you want it.

Post-collision response

If a collision occurs that results in air-bag or seat-belt ETD activation, the G-Class automatically takes measures to help ensure the safety, and facilitate the rescue, of the occupants. These include shutting off the engine and fuel supply, unlocking all doors, and turning on the hazard flashers and interior lights.

Mercedes-Benz mbrace2™

From your car, your computer or your compatible smartphone, mbrace2™ offers the industry's most comprehensive range of features for more connected, safe and productive drive time. From making your everyday life easier to helping out in an emergency, mbrace2 combines advanced Cloud-based and GPS technology with 24-hour support from helpful experts. The mbrace hardware is standard, and a trial period for each of the three mbrace Packages is included.

Electronic Stability Program (ESP®)

This safety breakthrough first introduced by Mercedes-Benz continually monitors your driving inputs and the vehicle's motion to help keep it going in your intended direction, especially in corners and during evasive maneuvers. If it detects wheelspin, severe understeer (plowing), or oversteer (fishtailing), ESP can brake individual wheels and reduce engine power to help bring the vehicle under control

Bi-Xenon headlamps

Bi-Xenon headlamps help deliver greater visibility than halogen headlamps because their brighter, whiter light is much closer to natural daylight.

80GB hard-drive navigation with Zagat® survey

Using a fast 80GB hard drive to store maps, points of interest and even Zagat® Survey ratings for restaurants, hotels and golf courses, this virtual copilot offers detailed driving directions with a friendly voice. The 7-inch LCD dashtop screen displays your route with new 3D maps of building profiles and elevations, plus gas stations, ATMs, Mercedes-Benz dealerships and even scenic routes. Data for the contiguous U.S., Canada and Oahu, Hawaii are standard, with periodic updates available at your authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer.

Premium leather upholstery

Supple, richly grained Premium leather is hand-fitted to the G550 seats and head restraints.

Dual-zone climate control

Separate left and right digital temperature controls allow the driver and passenger to enjoy personalized comfort. In addition to fully automatic or manual control of blower speed and airflow distribution, the system includes a dust and pollen filter that helps keep particles as small as 0.0002-inch from entering the cabin. Rear-cabin air vents are also standard.

Tire-pressure monitoring system

The Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) can automatically detect a substantial loss of tire pressure in any wheel and alert the driver via a warning message in the multifunction display. The advanced TPMS can also display the numeric tire pressure for each mounted wheel.

Rear view camera

This innovative driver-assistance feature helps you to see directly behind your vehicle when reversing. Shift into Reverse, and a wide-angle camera mounted in the rear displays a live view of what's behind the vehicle on the COMAND screen in the dashboard. Active parking guidelines on the screen help you back into a parking space.

10-way power front seats with memory

Intuitive, seat-shaped controls help you and your front passenger find your ideal seating positions with 10-way power adjustment. A memory system for each front seat recalls three stored seat positions with the touch of a button. The driver-seat memory also includes the power steering column and side mirror positions.

DISTRONIC PLUS (with PRE-SAFE Brake)

This advanced, radar-based cruise control monitors the vehicle ahead and adjusts your speed to help maintain a chosen following distance. It can even bring the car to a halt if it senses stopped traffic, then resume automatically. Should the car ahead slow to a stop suddenly, the PRE-SAFE Brake system can automatically engage up to 40% of available braking power and issue an audiovisual alarm. If you still haven't applied the brakes within 0.6 seconds of a calculated impact, it automatically engages 100% braking power.

MP3 Media Interface

The MP3 Media Interface turns your Mercedes-Benz into an extension of your iPod or compatible electronic device. Browse, select and play your musical accompaniment of choice using the steering-wheel, COMAND-system or stereo controls.

In-dash memory card reader

An in-dash SD memory card reader enables you to enjoy your music through the stereo system of your Mercedes-Benz without having to bring along a media player. It supports MP3, MP4 and WMA audio files.

Auxiliary audio input jack and USB port

Both an auxiliary audio input jack and USB connector allow plug-and-play enjoyment from your iPod® or other MP3 player.

HD Radio receiver

10GB Music Register

Music Register allows you to store up to 10GB of your own digital music on the in-dash hard drive. It lets you copy songs from your CDs and DVDs and save them to your vehicle's audio system, so you can listen to them anytime and anywhere you drive.

Dual sidepipe exhausts

The torrential torque of the G550 V-8 makes its presence known through a true dual exhaust system with genuine sidepipes. Twin outlets ahead of each rear wheel arch deliver a muscular, throaty growl under acceleration while offering a more serene tone during highway cruising.

LED Daytime Running Lamps

Permanent all-wheel drive with 2-speed transfer case

The G-Class features all-wheel drive equipped with a 2-speed transfer case and an extraordinary three locking differentials, all to help drivers tackle a variety of terrains and conditions. With its 7-speed automatic transmission and two transfer-case ranges, the G550 offers the widest span of gear ratios of any SUV. So whether your crawling down a steep hill or cruising on the highway, there's an optimum gear for the situation.

Adaptive braking technology

Powerful 4-wheel disc brakes feature a number of advances. If you lift off the accelerator quickly, Predictive Brake Priming sets the pads closer to the discs for more immediate response when you apply the brakes. In the rain, Automatic Brake Drying periodically applies the brakes just enough to sweep water build-up from the discs. During uphill starts, Hill-Start Assist helps prevent unwanted rollback. And a HOLD feature can make long red lights or stopped traffic a little easier.

Split-folding rear seats

The rear seats fold down and then flip forward to give you the freedom to increase cargo capacity with great flexibility. A 1/3:2/3 split lets you accommodate longer cargo while still carrying one or two rear passengers. Or fold and tumble both rear seats fully forward for up to 79.5 cubic feet of well-shaped cargo space.

Three lockable differentials

As you make your way off-road, three sequentially lockable differentials offer increasingly masterful capability. Each differential can be locked in sequence (center, rear, then front) via a set of buttons on the dash, to help maintain the ideal balance of torque and traction for the situation.

Rigid-axle suspension

For rugged off-road capability with confident on-road performance, the G-Class suspension consists of rigid front and rear axles with longitudinal and transverse links, coil springs, gas-pressurized shock absorbers and a front stabilizer bar. Both the suspension's vertical wheel travel and the vehicle's ground clearance exceed 8 inches.

PARKTRONIC

In any low-speed maneuver, PARKTRONIC's ultrasonic sensors in the front and rear bumpers detect nearby objects within the system's field of view. Audible signals and illuminated displays in the cabin help you navigate tight spaces with confidence.

6-way air bag protection

The G-Class offers standard 6-way air bag protection from dual front air bags, plus side curtain air bags for all four outboard seating positions.

Bluetooth audio streaming

Bluetooth audio streaming makes it even easier to enjoy your digital music player. It allows you to connect your Bluetooth-equipped iPod® or other MP3 player wirelessly to your vehicle's audio system for convenient, cable-free playback.

Multicontour front seats

Multicontour seats feature triple lumbar supports as well as adjustable side bolsters and shoulder supports, allowing you to custom-tailor your seat to precisely fit your physique.

Shift paddles

A pair of paddles strategically positioned behind the upper steering-wheel spokes allows you to manually upshift and downshift the 7-speed automatic transmission with just a flick of your fingers.

4-wheel Electronic Traction System (4-ETS)

For optimum traction, even in slippery conditions, the G-Class 4-wheel drive system incorporates our advanced 4-wheel Electronic Traction System. 4-ETS can help get you going even if three wheels lose their grip. Sensors at each wheel monitor traction based on wheel speeds. If one or more wheels start to slip, 4-ETS individually brakes the slipping wheels to maintain the flow of torque to the wheels with grip. Even if only one wheel has grip, 4-ETS can help get you going and stay in control.

Heated and Active Ventilated front seats

Heated and Active Ventilated seats are a luxury you'll soon consider a necessity. Three levels of heating and cooling ventilation are offered. By gently circulating air through perforations in the seat and backrest, Active Ventilated seats help keep you cooler and your clothes dryer during warmer months. On cold or damp days, using both the ventilation and heating features together can circulate the seat heating more quickly, to help keep you warm and dry.

harman/kardon LOGIC7® surround-sound system

Specifically engineered for the G-Class, this premium digital sound system fills the cabin with 450 watts of beautifully balanced audio. No fewer than 12 strategically placed speakers plus the rich bass of a subwoofer deliver a wholly immersive listening experience through Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound technology. Digital Dynamic Volume Control impeccably and imperceptibly maintains the sound spectrum for consistent listening pleasure in varying driving conditions.

Blind Spot Assist

When the vehicle is traveling above approximately 20 mph, this system uses radar technology to sense when a vehicle enters the blind-spot area. Blind Spot Assist then automatically alerts the driver via an illuminated red icon in the appropriate side mirror. The system also gives an audible warning if the driver activates a turn signal while a vehicle is detected in the blind spot.

Ambient interior lighting

Efficient, low-intensity LEDs help illuminate the center console, footwells and interior door handles, to help make nighttime driving more convenient and passengers feel more secure.

Power folding side mirrors

Side mirrors can be programmed to fold in automatically when you remote-lock the vehicle, helping save space in tight parking areas. The mirrors are also automatically heated to help disperse mist and fog from their lenses, and have been aerodynamically redesigned to help reduce wind noise and to help divert road spray away from the side windows when driving in the rain. Each mirror also integrates an LED turn signal that's more easily seen by a driver in the adjacent lane.

Three 12V power outlets

Convenient power ports are located in both seating rows and in the cargo area, to help you keep your portable devices charged while on the road.

Heated rear seats

Electrically heated rear seats quickly offer soothing warmth to the outboard rear-cabin passengers. Two levels of warming automatically step down after several minutes to the lowest setting. Timed auto-shutoff means you don't have to remember to turn off the heaters after your rear passengers exit.

Heated steering wheel

Heating elements beneath the Premium leather trim of the steering wheel rapidly take the chill out of your hands on a cold morning. After a few minutes, the heating level is automatically reduced to maintain lasting comfort.
