Michael Stanton
Supervisor, OpenSystems
Employed since August 1978

What's your favorite thing about your job?

I love supporting the computer systems that allow our company to succeed. Helping all my colleagues and supporting our customers is so satisfying, it never ceases to make my day.

What makes you proud to work at MBUSA?

From the day I was hired back in 1978, having recently gained a great interest in automobiles, I was thrilled to be offered an opportunity to work for this premier car company. Our founders invented the automobile in 1886, and our engineers have pioneered most of the major breakthroughs in automotive technology ever since. We have so many wonderful employees that are true professionals, with whom I have enjoyed working with all these years. I´ve known so many great people here, some now retired, whose hard work has made MBUSA into the successful company it is today.

My last manager called me "Mr. MBUSA" due to my somewhat obsessive dedication and verve for all things Mercedes. I am always watching over our systems, day and night. I have written dozens of monitoring programs to check on the hardware and software to make sure everything´s running properly, and I´ll connect in from anywhere at any time to fix issues, most of the time before anyone even notices anything is going wrong. It is because of my pride in the company that I work so hard.

What challenges you at work?

Finding ways to make our systems even better, and ensuring that all systems are up and available.

Why would you recommend someone work at MBUSA?

The people are great to work with, the benefits are terrific, and our products are the finest in the world.

How do you spend your time outside work (interest, hobbies, etc.)?

I play my guitars, like to read, and love to take my wife out to dinner to nice Italian restaurants. We recently bought a brand new house and we enjoy furnishing it and doing some gardening, etc. I also love driving and working on our Mercedes-Benz cars. I enjoy talking to Mercedes-Benz owners, listening to their experiences, and answering any questions they may have.

I am a Mercedes-Benz enthusiast and work on my own cars. My wife and I own three MB vehicles; a rare 2000 C43AMG, a 1999 SLK230 and a 2011 C300 4matic via the employee lease plan, which I believe is one of our company's best perks. My three children all drive MB vehicles.

I began my MBUSA career picking parts in our NJ parts depot. I took a great interest in the MB parts system, and I pride myself on knowing our products and model history very well.

I was promoted from the warehouse into the office as a Parts Specifier, assisting our dealers with parts technical issues, and then a few years later, I transferred to the Montvale home office as a liaison between IT and Parts Division. My next positions were computer programmer, systems analyst, and finally my current position as the Supervisor of the OpenSystems team.
