3.0L inline-6 turbo engine with mild hybrid drive

Three types of boost allow the G 550's advanced inline-6 to deliver higher peak power and greater efficiency than the previous biturbo V8. With an exhaust-gas turbo supplemented by an electric auxiliary compressor, the gas engine outputs 443 hp and 413 lb-ft of torque on its own. The lightweight, fully beltless engine is also electrified: An Integrated Starter-Generator can supply up to 20 hp and 184 lb-ft at certain rpm, allow gas-free coasting, and recapture energy during deceleration.

Three lockable differentials

As you make your way off-road, three sequentially lockable differentials offer increasingly masterful capability. Each differential can be locked in sequence (center, rear, then front) via a set of buttons on the dash, to help maintain the ideal balance of torque and traction for the situation.

ESP, 4-ETS, ABS, Brake Assist and Trailer Stability Assist do not operate when the differential locks are engaged. System cannot overcome the laws of physics, nor is it a substitute for being attentive to driving, traffic and conditions. Please always wear your seat belt. Performance is limited by available traction, which snow, ice and other conditions can affect. Always drive carefully, consistent with conditions. Best performance in snow is obtained with winter tires.
Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC

A Mercedes-Benz innovation, Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC® cruise control uses radar-based technology to adapt your set speed in response to the flow of traffic ahead. If traffic slows down, it can reduce your speed automatically until your path clears. If the vehicle ahead slows to a stop, it can brake to a full halt. When traffic moves, you can resume with just a tap of the accelerator or cruise control button, or it can resume automatically if the stop is under 30 seconds.

Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC is not a substitute for active driving involvement. It does not adapt cruising speed in response to stationary objects, nor does it predict the curvature and lane layout of the road ahead or the movement of vehicles ahead. It is the driver's responsibility at all times to be attentive to posted speed limits, traffic and road conditions, and to provide the steering, braking and other driving inputs necessary to retain control of the vehicle. Drivers are cautioned not to wait for the system's alerts before braking, as that may not afford sufficient time and distance to brake safely. Braking effectiveness also depends on proper brake maintenance, and tire and road conditions. See Operator's Manual for system operating speeds and additional information and warnings.
Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX)

A breakthrough in automobile cockpit control, the Mercedes-Benz User Experience integrates digital in-dash displays including a touchscreen, touch-sensitive controls, Bluetooth® hands-free and audio streaming, and an industry-advancing voice control system that responds to your everyday speaking voice and phrasing of commands. You can set up multiple user profiles of favored settings, and groups of settings can be saved as themes or moods.

Requires an active Mercedes me account, available at no charge. See Operator's Manual for additional information.
OFFROAD COCKPIT

An overview of information relevant to off-road driving can be viewed on the dual digital displays, along with buttons in the center of the dash to access specific off-roading features and settings. Information content such as compass, elevation, steering angle, torque output, ambient temperature and tire pressure can be displayed in a variety of tiles, and customized by swiping or using on-screen arrows.

Off-road driving should only be attempted by drivers with the necessary skill, experience and understanding of the vehicle's limits. Read Operator's Manual before driving off-road.
